PaPa Bear's Doggy Den is a privately owned family business that was launched in the summer of 2006. Filling a couple needs we decided to 1)Rescue our severely dilapidated 100 year old oak barn and 2)To start down the path of independence and self-employment.

Meet Karl Zeth and his wife Polly. Karl is the Owner and Caretaker at PaPa Bear's Doggy Den. Polly works as a Chief Inspector for Columbia Gas Transmission Corp. Karl holds a degree in Music Education and is a talented musician. We have been married for 13 years.

After 25 years of working as an Electronics Technician in the security industry Karl decided it was time for a change. Considering the credo of “do what you love and the money will follow”. He decided to invest his future in the care of your pets. Thus, PaPa Bear's Doggy Den was born

We spent a lot of time researching this venture. Traveling to dozens of kennels to “check things out” we came away from most thinking that we would not want to leave our dog in such places. We could just picture his pitiful face as we drove away. Peering thru the sterile chain link forlornly hunched up on a cold concrete pad - he would be terrified

No, we were looking for some thing different; some place comfortable and entertaining. Don't get us wrong, we did see several places that had that kind of upbeat atmosphere but they also came with an upscale price tag. Often the base price seemed reasonable enough but an additional charge was tacked on for every little service. $10.00 for an off leash walk, $5.00 for a few minutes of one on one time, $1.00 for a dog biscuit $10.00 for access to an outdoor run . . . . Services that we feel should be standard practices when you are striving to keep a pet comfortable and entertained.

We believe that our basic service for one basic price covers the needs of your pet when you are away. We wouldn't have it any other way. We don't want to keep a dog that doesn't get to experience some freedom everyday and we couldn't think of keeping your pet here without offering them a good dose of one-on-one time. And a goodnight- tuck-in-snack; How could they go to sleep with out it? All of this plus – no cages – no concrete! Your pup will stay in their own room with free access to an outdoor natural run.
